You must be a ‘Content manager’ to configure merge fields.
From the merge field administration page
You can access the merge fields administration page by clicking on the 'Merge Fields' icon in the left panel on your homepage.
This administration page lets you manage all the merge fields for the group(s) for which you have access:

Categories of merge fields available in the ‘Folder’ and/or ‘Document’ forms
+ merge fields available in the questionnaire for all the configured masters - Create a new merge field category
- Customize the name of the merge field category
- Filter the merge fields available in the selected category
- Create a new merge field (which will then be linked to a category)
- Open a merge field in order to change its characteristics
- Select one or more merge fields for a specific action (archive, duplicate, move, restore)
- Sort the column
- Modify the order of the merge fields in the forms (order of categories)
- Return to the home page

From the questionnaire in a master
You can create merge fields or link existing ones to responses when configuring a questionnaire.
- Search for an existing merge filed.
- Create a new merge field.
- Change merge field properties.
- Remove the merge field.
NB: merge fields created from a questionnaire are automatically linked to the category ‘Questionnaire merge fields’ in the administration page. They are then not visible in the forms.
