A merge field code is the information between braces, or curly brackets, that identifies a merge field so that it can merged or integrated into the document with completed page layout or in the word processor.
These are the rules for creating the codes:
- Opened and closed with two sets of braces {{XX}}.
- It is possible to have braces within braces for long codes (see screen shot below).
- No accents or special characters in the code. Capital letters should also be avoided.
- No spaces between words, use the underscore_between words to improve legibility (see screen shot below).
NB.:
- Do not change existing codes as this will have an impact on your layout or on your documents if those codes are used in your templates or your masters. The field will not be recognized and there will be a blank space where the information should be.
- If you want to use newly created fields for your layout, please get in touch with your Xait project manager.
